The 7th Space War was a deadly conflict in the series After War Gundam X, with devastating results.

History

Beginning and Overview

Although the exact reasons for the beginning of the war are unknown, it started roughly because one colony planned to secede from Earth as well as different views about the existence of Newtypes. On one side stood the Earth government known as the United Nations Earth (UNE), on the other side the forces of the colonies, known as the Space Revolutionary Army (SRA). Both sides created many different variants of Mobile Suits and Mobile Armors to fight the other side. Both sides also heavily relied upon Newtypes, although both governments had different views of them. While the UNE simply saw them as tools for war, the SRA considered them to be the next step in human evolution. Despite different views both governments created special mobile weapons and system which could only be used by Newtypes or got advantages from them.

Special Operations

Each faction carried out a number of special Operations to weaken or defeat the other side. Most of these plans included special types of Mobile Weapons.

• Operation Lilac - In this operation conducted by the SRA in the last months of the war the large mobile armor MAN-003 Patulia as well as five RMSN-008 Bertigo mobile suits were used. It was planned to send the Patulia guarded by the Bertigos down to Earth to destroy the UNE headquarters. However the Bertigos were destroyed in atmospheric combat and the Patulia crash landed on the planet.

• Operation Dahlia - An operation of the SRA which planned to use a weapon known as Colony Laser to fire on Earth. In the resulting chaos the SRA would take control over the planet. Construction of the laser was however abandoned during the war. In AW 0015 the laser was finally finished.

• Operation L - A secret operation conducted by the UNE in the Pacific Ocean. The plan involved the Newtype Lucille Liliant, several FX-9900 GX-Bit units and the L System. The L System boosted Lucille's Newtype powers and allowed her to deactivate all machines in a certain area. During the time the operation was to be carried out, the colony drop occured and the ship carrying the container with all parts of it (including Lucille in suspended animation) sunk. The container then stayed at the bottom of the Sea of Lorelei for 15 years. How this operation was planned to be conducted is unknown but it is said that if it was carried out it would have changed the course of war.

In the end each operation was a failure or wasn't carried out altogether.

The last battle

Massive Colony Drop operation.

The war finally reached a stalemate which lasted eight months, until the SRA threatened to drop dozens of colonies on the planet. The UNE responded by sending out its most powerful series of mobile weapons, the Gundam-type mobile suits consisting of three types of suits: the GT-9600 Gundam Leopard, the GW-9800 Gundam Airmaster and finally the GX-9900 Gundam X. The Gundam X was the most powerful of them, equipped with the so-called Satellite Cannon that used a microwave beam sent from a base on the moon to created a powerful energy beam, capable to destroy a single space colony in one shot. One Gundam X was piloted by young Newtype Jamil Neate who used his Gundam as well as his Bit Mobile Suits to destroy one of the colonies. The SRA responded by sending the remaining colonies to Earth, nearly wiping out the human race. Although the battle in space went on, in the end, there was no winner.

Aftermath

The effects of the colony drop for Earth and the human race were devastating. They were among other:

• death of nine billion humans, with about only 100 million survivors
• large areas of land destroyed, with especially South America being a mess even 15 years later
• occurence of massive climate changes
• a nuclear winter that lasted seven years
• appearance of new diseases, f.e. the colony disease
• the collapse of the United Nations Earth

The human race however survived despite the hardships and started to rebuild its civilization. Also many mobile weapons survived the war, which became powerful tools in the post-war era. The new era saw the appearance of a new group of people known as the Vultures, who travel the planet to search for technology they can sell.

The time after the war became known as the After War era.
