The "Break The World" Incident is a conflict that led to the Second Alliance-PLANT War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Prelude[]

Following the First Alliance-PLANT War, a mutual peace was made between the Earth Alliance and PLANT following the deaths of their extremist leaders with the Junius Treaty. On the side of the PLANTs, a major shake-up occurred in its Supreme Council which saw the arrest of most of the radical representatives and the moderate Eileen Canaver and Gilbert Durandal succeeding the late Patrick Zala.

The new political scene, which favored the unsteady peace over another war, was not well-received by a minority group that still retained Zala's extreme discrimination towards Naturals and his dream of destroying Earth as payback for their losses. To this end, the group, led by Sato, would obtain thrusters and used them to begin moving the wreckage of Junius Seven, the gravestone of the Bloody Valentine Incident, on a collision course toward Earth. The Joule Team was quickly made aware of the wrecked colony's movements and initially assumed it to be an accident and sent out several meteor breakers to drill and break the wrecked colony before it reaches Earth. In response, Sato's forces attack the Joule Team to stop them from interfering with their plan.

Another group of terrorists also head towards the Junk Guild's GENESIS Alpha in order to take control of the space station and attack Earth, but the attack was repelled by Rondo Mina Sahaku and her entourage. When the Junk Guild attempted to use GENESIS Alpha to aid in the destruction of the wrecked colony, Ash Gray's ZGMF-X12A Testament Gundam infected the space station with a computer virus, altering the trajectory of its laser towards Earth. Fortunately, the Junk Guild stopped this, but Ash had it fire upon an Alliance base instead. The Junk Guild was then forced to destroy the space station to prevent its capture by the Alliance.

The Battle[]

Suddenly attacked by several ZGMF-1017M2 GINN High Maneuver Type IIs, the Joule Team's units began mobilizing to protect the engineers, but this was caught by the members of Phantom Pain, who mistakenly believed that ZAFT was behind the entire incident and began attacking all sides with Sting Oakley's ZGMF-X24S Chaos Gundam, Auel Neider's ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam, and Stella Loussier's ZGMF-X88S Gaia Gundam. While Dearka Elsman's ZGMF-1000/A1 Gunner ZAKU Warrior is busy defending the meteor breakers, Joule Team leader, Yzak Joule requested for help from the nearby Minerva.

In response, the ship sends out Shinn Asuka's ZGMF-X56S/α Force Impulse Gundam, Athrun Zala's ZGMF-1000/M Blaze ZAKU Warrior, Lunamaria Hawke's Gunner ZAKU Warrior and Rey Za Burrel's ZGMF-1001/M Blaze ZAKU Phantom. Shinn, Athrun, and Lunamria would go on to engage Sting, Auel, and Stella respectively while Rey would continue assisting the Joule Team against the terrorist group. Dearka would later get a clean shot on Sato's GINN, melting its arm with his "Orthros" Beam Cannon.

Believing that Phantom Pain had misinterpreted the situation, Minerva captain, Talia Gladys also sends a message towards Bogey One asking them to stand down and explain the situation. In the meantime, Phantom Pain's units would begin taking damage as the Gaia would lose its beam rifle in exchange for the leg of Lunamaria's ZAKU while the Sting would lose the Chaos' weapon pods to Athrun.

Eventually, the efforts of the engineers pay off as Junius Seven's wreckage is finally cut in half by the meteor breakers. Seeing that even this was still not enough, Athrun ordered for the destruction of the wrecked colony to continue. He would join up with both Yzak and Dearka as they attempted to set up another meteor breaker, but are interrupted by a pair of terrorists followed by Auel and Sting. Initially, the three work together to deal with the two GINNs before Yzak and Athrun engage the Abyss and Chaos. The pair would easily force them to retreat as Yzak and Athrun used a combination attack to break the Abyss' Beam Lance before moving to destroy the Chaos' beam rifle and shield. By this time, Earth's government has already been made aware of the imminent descent of Junius Seven's wreckage, and a worldwide evacuation would commence.

As the battle was reaching Earth, Phantom Pain's captain, Neo Roanoke ordered his subordinates to pull back. Due to the massive chunks remaining, Captain Gladys would order her units to return before the ship would continue attacking the massive chunks in its descent to Earth. While Shinn and Athrun would attempt to launch one more meteor breaker before returning, they are attacked by Sato and two more terrorists. Shinn is able to cut one down but is knocked unconscious when the second self detonates his unit after grabbing Shinn's cockpit. At the same time, Athrun would fight Sato, but he would be distracted when Sato called back to Patrick Zala's words, and would lose one of his arms.

When Athrun attempted to escape back to the Minerva, Sato tries to cling onto the leg of Athrun's ZAKU, but Shinn is able to regain consciousness and severs the leg before trying to bring Athrun back to the Minerva. Unfortunately, the pull of gravity is too strong as both end up free-falling towards Earth. During this time, the Minerva would attack whatever large chunk it could find using its "Tannhäuser" Positron Blaster Cannon.

Unknown to most was that Junk Guild member Lowe Guele had also aided in the destruction of the wrecked colony, using his MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame Mars Jacket and its Gerbera Straight sword to slice through several chunks of debris. Immediately after returning to his ship, the Re.H.O.M.E., the Red Frame Mars Jacket was stolen by Deago Lowell, a Martian, who then fled to Earth.[1]

Aftermath[]

While total annihilation was averted by ZAFT's actions, large chunks of debris still managed to reach Earth; several major cities and cultural landmarks were destroyed forever. Chairman Durandal and PLANT would be among the first to offer widespread material donation and humanitarian aid towards the damaged nations. As emotions were high, Neo reviewed older camera data to find Sato's men planting the engines responsible though omitting the message he received from the Minerva and sent it to his superior, Lord Djibril, the leader of Logos, the successor of the anti-Coordinator extremist group Blue Cosmos.

With the Atlantic Federation's president, Joseph Copeland, under his thumb, Djibril used Neo's pictures to paint the picture of ZAFT's culpability which Durandal would publicly deny. Because of these arguments, tensions rose once again and the Alliance would declare war on the PLANTs once more, starting the Second Alliance-PLANT War. This decision, however, would prove hasty as Durandal's charity, growing tolerance towards Coordinators, or fear from the previous war made some members of the Alliance reluctant to fight once again. Nonetheless, the radical Atlantic Federation would push for a nuclear attack on the PLANT capital, Aprilius One.

Secretly, Chairman Durandal would privately purge all recorded data regarding Sato and the terrorists to prevent any possible tie towards ZAFT.[2]
