So... I am just getting into airbrushing and more serious painting of my kits and have run across some orange peeling/paint cracking issues as I clear coat. As I thought about it more and explored paint formulations it finally clicked. Make sure you alternate your base chemistries when your are painting. That way it is much easier to correct any mistakes during each step and should prevent any sort of paint cracking or surface damage.
2: Paint (acrylic)
3: Clear coat (enamel)
4: Panel line/detail paint (acrylic)
5: Top coat (enamel)
Sound off if you have any other advice!!
