Domon Kasshu (ドモン・カッシュ?) is the main protagonist of Mobile Fighter G Gundam.

Personality & Character[]

Domon was seen as brash, impulsive, emotional, and extremely impatient. Domon was very prone to letting his emotions overcome his better judgement, but that was usually leveled off by his partner, Rain's even-keeled personality. Domon was also highly determined to free his father from his frozen imprisonment and find out why Kyoji had stolen the Devil Gundam. Despite the obsession that Domon demonstrated about his mission, he possessed a strong sense of justice, and would usually set aside his own mission when the weak and powerless required his protection.

Although he has been lonely in spite of his family since childhood, and his clumsy roots have caused him to avoid contact with others more than necessary, he is in fact a good young man with an honest and kind nature. Because of this, his mentor, Master Asia, has called him "a fool who loses sight of what is necessary at the most important time" and "a fool who is slow to make decisions." Through the tragedy of losing his friends, his beloved brother, and his mentor, he overcomes his weakness and grows up a lot.

Skills & Abilities[]

Domon, who had mastered the school of the "Undefeated of the East," was a martial artist with the skills to dominate the colonial martial arts. He showed extraordinary skill in catching bullets with his fingers and not sustaining a single wound himself, even under the intense fire of machine guns. He had also studied the art of war as part of his training, but he was sometimes outwitted by Master Asia. Domon also knows the art of swordsmanship, which he uses in Gundam Fights.

History[]

Background[]

Born into a family of scientists, Domon ran away from home at the age of 8 when his father decided to send him to an elite school, and stowed away on a smuggling ship. At the age of 10, Domon began studying under Master Asia and spent 10 years mastering the school of the "Undefeated of the East". Master Asia bestowed his "King of Hearts" emblem upon Domon, who had grown as a martial artist through training, and shortly thereafter disappeared.

Domon finally returns to his hometown, Neo Japan, where he has been away for 10 years, and is told a shocking story by Major Ulube Ishikawa, a Neo Japanese soldier. His father Raizo had created the Ultimate Gundam for the regeneration of the Earth's environment, while his brother Kyoji was planning to use the completed Gundam as a weapon to overrun the Colony Alliance and the Earth. The Neo Japanese forces led by Ulube tried to stop them, but Kyoji broke through the encirclement aboard the still-fledgling Devil Gundam, escaped from the Neo Japan colony, and fell to Earth. During this battle, his mother Mikino died as collateral damage to Kyoji. Raizo was also considered a co-conspirator, and although he was spared the death penalty through the intercession of his friend and collaborator, Dr. Mikamura, he was sentenced to permanent freezing for treason. Meanwhile, the Devil Gundam that fell to Earth was expected to be revived, albeit severely damaged. However, Neo Japan could not carelessly interfere with it, since the authority to rule on Earth rested with Neo Hong Kong, the former winner of the Gundam Fight. Therefore, a plan is hatched to take advantage of the Gundam Fight, which takes place once every four years and allows participants to move freely around the Earth, to recover the Devil Gundam from the hands of the Kyoji.

At this point, Ulube proposes that Domon win the Gundam Fight and retrieve the Devil Gundam in exchange for saving his father Raizo. Domon, who has no way to refuse the offer, is forced to participate in the Gundam Fight as the representative Gundam Fighter of Neo Japan in order to win his father's freedom and also to exact retribution on Kyoji for what he did.

Survival Eleven[]

Starting in Neo Italy, and defeating the Neros Gundam that was piloted by Michelo Chariot, Domon crossed paths with fellow Gundam Fighters whom he befriended in their fights: Neo America's Chibodee Crocket, Neo China's Sai Saici, Neo France's George de Sand, and Neo Russia's Argo Gulskii. He even aided the four at later events, one of which dealt with Neo Britain's Gentle Chapman in his final days alive. Upon meeting each of them, Domon presented a photo of Kyoji to them in the vain hope of finding him.

After many victories against many of the world nation's pilots, Domon and his partner, Rain Mikamura, arrive in the former Shinjuku district of Tokyo only be confronted by the Death Army that was created by the Devil Gundam. Though Domon and Rain made an attempt to escape, it seemed like the end, but the appearance of a mysterious stranger, who happened to be Domon's old martial arts teacher, Master Asia, came to their aid. After Master Asia made short work of the Death Army, Domon told him about what happened to his family and why he decided to be a Gundam Fighter. But things got worse as Domon was later ambushed by a mysterious Gundam with aid from Chibodee, Sai Saici, George de Sand and Argo. Rain managed to help Domon drive the five off as Master Asia vanished.

Shortly after a moment of peace in the ruined city, a massive army of the Devil Gundam began its attack on Tokyo. Domon joined forces with Master Asia and his small band of pilots in the conflict and managed to save the city. But something was not right, and it appeared that Master Asia had joined the Devil Gundam, and said that the Devil Gundam's DG cells were what the world needed to achieve peace. Master Asia attacked his former student, and revealed that he was the pilot of the mysterious Gundam, the Master Gundam, and that the other four Gundam pilots were infected by DG cells, which appeared much stronger than Domon remembered. Then, the Shuffle Alliance arrived to offer Domon their aid while demanding to know why their former leader betrayed them. As the Shining Gundam battled the Master Gundam, the Shuffle Alliance restrained each Gundam Fighter, and sacrificed themselves to save them from the DG cells once each was holding their successor.

After the death of the older Shuffle Alliance, Domon activated his Shining Gundam's Super Mode and forced Master Asia to retreat with the Devil Gundam as it was fully active. In the aftermath, a stranger known only as Neo Germany 's pilot Schwarz Bruder appeared and convinced Domon that he was not ready yet to face the Devil Gundam, and should instead seek further training.

Guiana Highlands[]

Domon travels to the Guiana Highlands, where he originally trained with Master Asia, with the purpose of training to learn to activate and control the Shining Gundam's Super Mode at will. With Schwarz's help, the other members of the new Shuffle Alliance were convinced to train as well after they overcame the initial trauma from the incident at Shinjuku (excluding Argo). However, Master Asia and the Devil Gundam made their move once all five fighters were gathered. The group only had a matter of days to make it to Neo Hong Kong, the location of the Gundam Fight finals, or be disqualified. In the fight's climax, Domon stayed behind while the rest of the Shuffle Alliance headed to Neo Hong Kong, had them take a sickly Rain, and promised to provide her safe passage. With some help from Schwarz, Domon defeated the Devil Gundam with the true Super Mode that was triggered by a serene state of mind and not anger. After seeing the Devil Gundam destroyed, Master Asia lashed out at Domon in rage and damaged the Shining Gundam before he was defeated. Fortunately, Rain had contacted her father, Dr. Mikamura, who sent the God Gundam to the Guiana Highlands. After Rain transferred the battle data of the Shining Gundam to the God Gundam, Master Asia attacked Domon again. However, Domon once again utilized the serene state of mind to enter Hyper Mode and effectively defeated Master Asia, which temporarily put an end to his fight against the Devil Gundam. After he knew that he wouldn't make it to Neo Hong Kong in time by flying the conventional way, Domon ascended into space and used the beam ring that surrounded the Earth as a giant catapult to give him an enormous boost in speed. Just as he nears his destination, Domon was attacked by mysterious assailants. Despite them trying to slow him down, Domon broke free and managed to make it to Neo Hong Kong one second before the time ran out.

Tournament Finals[]

During the finals, Domon used the God Gundam to great effect, won many matches, and planned to face Master Asia in the Battle Royale by remaining undefeated. Domon found refuge with an old fisherman named Han and his two grandchildren, Hoy and Ming who became his moral support. Domon encountered many fighters such as Marcelot Cronos of Neo Greece, Carlos Andalusia of Neo Spain, and the young Allenby Beardsley of Neo Sweden. Wong Yunfat later forced Domon to fight his Shuffle Alliance partners, which wasn't easy since they improved themselves during the training at the Guiana Highlands, and developed their own Hyper Mode along with a new technique. Later Master Asia arranged for Domon to come meet him, and revealed that his final match before the Battle Royale would be against his surrogate teacher, Schwarz Bruder. While Domon was trapped in an old section of Neo Hong Kong with Master Asia, Master Asia taught Domon the Sekiha Tenkyoken, his most advanced technique to help him defeat Schwarz. When the match began, Domon learned that Rain had become a part of the Neo Germany Team and that she was forced to watch Schwarz as he overwhelmed Domon, who couldn't execute his God Finger Attack due to a damaged part in the circuitry. Although Domon swore to fight alone, Rain had a change of heart and helped Domon win the match by giving him instructions to repair the damage, which allowed Domon to use the Sekiha Tenkyoken technique. Domon learned that Schwarz had used Rain to teach him that he couldn't fight alone, and was more shocked to see Schwarz's unmasked face, Kyoji.

Final Battle Royale[]

During the Battle Royale, the Devil Gundam finally resurfaced along with the three Gundams that attempted to keep the God Gundam from making it to Neo Hong Kong, with two of these Gundams appearing during the Final Rounds piloted by the disqualified Michelo and the revived Chapman, Gundam Heaven's Sword and the Grand Gundam. After the other four Shuffle Alliance members nearly sacrificed themselves to defeat the two, Domon then was attacked by a berserk Allenby who piloted the Walter Gundam, with Rain arriving in the Rising Gundam to counter Allenby's Walter Gundam so that Domon could get to the Devil Gundam.

But once he fought against the Devil Gundam, Domon learned from an injured Schwarz that he was just an android copy of Kyoji who was created by DG cells, and that Ulube and Rain's father, Dr. Mikamura were the real conspirators behind the Devil Gundam Incident. Shortly thereafter, Schwarz decided to sacrifice himself alongside Kyoji in order to defeat the Devil Gundam. After much hesitation, a tearful Domon accepted to give him the final, killing blow. After the Devil Gundam was defeated, an enraged Master Asia attacked Domon and revealed that not only was he disgusted by the current condition of the world that was caused by the previous Gundam Fights, but also that he had joined the Devil Gundam and used Wong to help his plan to force the remaining people into space. Master Asia expressed his belief that once humanity was gone, then nature could restore itself. But after defeating his former master in battle, Domon convinced Master Asia that his plan would have failed anyway, since humans were also part of nature and that removing them from the Earth wouldn't solve anything. Before Master Asia died, they both made amends and Domon held his master in his arms before he died.

Colony Devil Gundam[]

Despite his victory over the Gundam Fight, with Neo Japan the ruling government and Karato promising to drop the charges on his father, Domon felt it that was an empty victory without Rain, who decided to distance herself from Domon since she learned the truth of her father's involvement in the Devil Gundam Incident from Schwarz, and saw his crimes against the Kasshus hers as well (her family name was tarnished). But unknown to both of them, Ulube salvaged the remains of the inactive Devil Gundam and got ahold of the late Wong Yunfat's research notes, which revealed that a female was the best suited Core Life Unit. Ulube ended up using Rain as the new Core Life Unit of the Devil Gundam and then merged it with the Neo Japan Colony, which turned it into the Colony Devil Gundam. With the help from his Shuffle Alliance allies and the reformed Dr. Mikamura, who released Dr. Kasshu's capsule at the cost of his life while he begged Domon to apologize to Rain for him and tell her not to blame herself for his actions, the five Gundam Fighters made it into the colony as Allenby, Kyral, and the nations' other Gundam Fighters gathered to protect the Earth from the Devil Gundam. Domon, alongside his Shuffle Alliance Allies, was able to defeat Ulube in the Grand Master Gundam, only to learn from his father that he needed to shut down the Core Life Unit, which meant killing Rain.

Domon then went on his own to find Rain while the rest of the Shuffle Alliance dealt with the Grand Master Gundam that was regenerated through DG cells. Domon was able to find the main body of the Devil Gundam within the Colony Devil Gundam, but was warned by his father that Rain was controlling it. With a reminder from Allenby about why Rain had wanted to distance herself from Domon and further encouragement from his Shuffle Alliance friends, Domon was able to tell Rain about what her late father said and admitted his feelings towards her. After Rain severed herself from the Devil Gundam, her and Domon combined their energy and used the Erupting Burning Finger Sekiha Love-Love Tenkyoken to permanently destroy it. Domon and Rain triumphantly return to Earth as the "Gundam of Gundams".

14th Gundam Fight[]

In the manga "Mobile Fighter G Gundam Side Story: The Next Generation", Domon had taken Yuugo Kagami as his pupil, who also inherited an upgraded God Gundam and joined the 14th Gundam Fight.

Relationships[]

Raizo Kasshu[]

Raizou Kasshu is Domon's father and a Neo-Japan scientist. Following the Devil Gundam Incident, he was placed in cryogenic suspension for being an accomplice is helping his older son Kyoji create the Devil Gundam, but in reality he was imprisoned by Ulube and Dr. Mikamura to silence him in order to cover up their true actions when they attempted to seize control of the Devil Gundam, back when it was known as the Ultimate Gundam. It was due to this situation that Domon was forced to become a Gundam Fighter. It wouldn't be until near the end of the tournament that Domon learned the truth about these events. Later during their final battle against Ulube and the Colony Devil Gundam, after Mikamura sacrificed himself, Dr. Kasshu was thawed out on the Gorby II and after having a tearful reunion with Domon over the com-link helped the Shuffle Alliance by providing tactical information.

Domon was briefly angry at his father for suggesting they kill Rain, who was the Devil Gundam life-core unit when there was no other option before he went off alone. However, everything was resolved when Domon's reconciliation with Rain allowed her to break free from the Devil Gundam. In the end Dr. Kasshu knew despite humanity's problems, Domon and his teammates in the Shuffle Allience can deal with them.

Rain Mikamura[]

Rain is Domon's childhood friend and supporter who helps to maintain his Gundam. Despite Domon constantly neglecting her and ignoring her opinion, inwardly he does care for her and looks out for her wellbeing, even going as far as being willing to sacrifice his Gundam so that Argo would spare her in the battle against Andrew Graham.

He becomes more amicable with her after he defeats the Devil Gundam before the finals, though his friendship with Allenby causes her to become jealous. When Allenby is kidnapped, he blames Rain which causes a rift in their relationship. However, Schwarz helps them to smooth things out and they get back together, with Domon admitting he needs Rain. He is upset when Rain leaves with her father, eventually chasing after her and telling her that she is not responsible for her fathers' actions. He confesses to her and breaks her free from the Devil Gundam. The pair then defeat the Devil Gundam once and for all with a joint attack, then ride off into space.

Chibodee Crocket[]

The two share mutual respect for each other, with Domon acknowledging his skill after taking a punch from him. Chibodee also respects his strength and wants to beat him. Domon wanted Chibodee's help against the Devil Gundam, and was surprised at his refusal. During their last fight against each other, Chibodee lights a fire in Domon and he faces him seriously, accepting Chibodee as a great rival.

Sai Saici[]

Domon acts as an older brother figure to Sai, who can be quite childish. He chastises Sai when appropriate and helps him to overcome his fear of Dahal. He was tempted to tease Sai when he saw him on a date, but was stopped by Rain. He also helped him get to his match against Hans when he was being held up by vengeful thugs. He thinks Sai is strange for referring to him as an older brother but respects his strength, responding with "I know" when Allenby tells him he might be in trouble against Sai. He acknowledges Sai's strength as the only one who managed to force him into a draw.

George de Sand[]

Domon respects George's skill and was surprised to learn that he was defeated by Chapman when they reunited. He also respects his chivalric attitude and attempts to bring him back to his senses when he goes berserk against Mirabeau. He sees George as a rival the same way he views the rest of the Shuffle Alliance, going out to fight him when George disobeyed the kings orders.

Argo Gulskii[]

The two get along as friends and rivals. Argo supports Domon when he is in trouble, and Domon respects Argo's strength. He looked forward to fighting Argo in the finals and warned Andrew not to ruin their match.

Master Asia[]

Domon had a lot of respect for Master Asia and looks up to his mentor. Despite his cold demeanour in his search for Kyoji, he was quick to lean on Master Asia and seek guidance from him. Rain also noticed that she had never seen him smile the way he did when he was with Asia. He is devastated by his betrayal and even then, Domon continues to make excuses for him and tries to bring him back. Eventually, he realizes that Asia isn't who he thought he was and his respect turns into hatred, which allows Asia to run circles around him. With the help of Schwarz, Domon is able to control himself and defeat Asia without any hatred, but Asia persists in trying to defeat Domon. By the end, Domon just wants to be rid of Asia and cannot understand why he is so desperate to stop him.

Although he dismisses him as an evil person, he realizes in the final battle against him that Master is actually in deep sorrow due to his past. Though he does not agree with Master's reasoning, he does accept that his motives were noble and lets go of his ill feelings towards him. He is upset that he didn't notice Master's plight sooner. The two share one last moment as teacher and student before Master Asia passes away.

Kyoji Kasshu[]

Domon got along with his brother until the incident where Kyoji took the Devil Gundam, which resulted in the death of their mother and imprisonment of their father. This led to Domon hating Kyoji, travelling the Earth in search for him. Despite his hatred, Domon still hesitates to kill him and destroy the Gundam, which shows that he wasn't able to completely sever his relationship with Kyoji. Eventually he commits and strikes him down along with the Devil Gundam.

When he sees Kyoji's face under Schwarz's mask, he is confused but tries to reunite with what may be his brother. He is shocked to learn the truth and hesitates to kill Kyoji the second time. Although he does go through with it, it upsets him greatly.

Schwarz Bruder[]

When they first met, Domon was too fixated on beating his brother and Master Asia which proved detrimental for him. Schwarz helped him overcome his tunnel vision and anger, teaching him about 'Meikyo Shisui' and keeping calm. Domon respects Schwarz and acknowledges his strength.

In the finals, Domon finally sees underneath the mask and is confused when he sees his brothers face. He tries to reunite with him and is shocked to learn the truth when he does. He sees Schwarz and Kyoji as seperate people but feels the same brotherly love for both of them, hesitating to finish them. Although he does go through with it, it upsets him greatly.

Allenby Beardsley[]

The two hit it off instantly after their first meeting, where they fought each other in a game. Although Allenby hated being involved in Gundam Fights, she enjoyed her match against Domon and wanted to face him in their Mobile Suit's. When their match was interfered with, Domon tried his best to snap her out of her berserker mode so they could have a proper clash of souls.

He relies on her to help him train for his fights against his Shuffle Alliance teammates. He is greatly upset when she is kidnapped, getting angry at Rain for not looking after her properly. They eventually reunite and although she confesses her feelings for him, knows that his heart already belongs to Rain. She would later convince Domon to tell Rain his true feelings toward her, so Allenby herself could move on, after helping Domon recover from his depression as Rain was trying to keep herself away from Domon due to her father's actions.

Ulube Ishikawa[]

At first Ulube was one of Domon's contacts in the Neo-Japan Goverment, who helped provided Domon information about the Devil Gundam incident and was also willing to pull favors all to help locate the Devil Gundam. It would not be until before the end of the 13th Gundam Fight that Domon would learn the truth about Ulube, that he and Dr. Mikamura were in fact behind the Devil Gundam Incident for their own selfish purposes.

When Domon learned that Ulube was using Rain to revive the Devil Gundam, as Ulube makes his move with the Colony Devil Gundam, an enraged Domon confronts him, furious that Ulube had used him as his pawn all along. Ulube's toying with Domon using Rain only made Domon vow he would never forgive him, and Domon is overpowered before his Shuffle Alliance allies arrive to bail him out. They then go into the Colony Devil Gundam where Ulube confronts them with the Grand Master Gundam. After the Shuffle Alliance combines their power to defeat him, a dying Ulube states it is impossible to stop the Devil Gundam before passing away.

Dr. Mikamura[]

Rain's father and one of his father's old friends, Dr. Mikamura was also one of Domon's contacts in the Neo-Japan Government. He would also be the one responsible who sent the God Gundam to the Guiana Highlands when Rain had contacted her father. It wouldn't be until later that Dr. Mikamura was revealed to be one of the conspirators behind the Devil Gundam incident due to his jealously towards Dr. Kasshu's accomplishments.

However, as Rain made him regret his previous selfishness, once Ulube made his move to make Rain the Devil Gundam's new life core unit, he wounded Dr. Mikamura who was against it, but Mikamura managed to get away and immediately contacted Domon to warn him of Ulube's plot. The wounded Mikamura then headed where Dr. Kasshu's cryogenic containment capsule was stored. He then sacrificed himself so Dr. Kasshu could be revived and they would stand a better chance of defeating the Devil Gundam. Before dying, Dr. Mikamura made his final request for Domon to save Rain and tell her not to blame herself for his actions, something that Domon would honor when he later confronted Rain.

Other Media[]

Gundam EXA[]

Domon would battle against Leos Alloy's GF7-013NJ Yamato Gundam while the latter was obtaining data from the Future Century. Leos would goad Domon into a fight by pretending to have important information about Kyoji Kasshu. After being backed into a corner thanks to Leos' Sunshine Sword Tactical Arms, and Rain presuming herself to be a hostage of Leos' friend Rokai, Domon enters a battle trance, using the Shining Gundam's Super Mode and going on a rampage despite officials threatening to strip him of his license. Fearing that Domon would lose his status as a Mobile Fighter, Leos concedes and manages to calm Domon down.

Once the pair exit their units, Leos reveals his world to Domon though the latter's memories of their encounter would be purged once Leos returned home. Before the two would part ways, they would begin a large scale battle against the Death Army. The data gathered from the Shining Gundam was later used to develop the Extreme Gundam Type Leos Xenon Phase, and Leos' personality also changes to be similar to Domon's when in Xenon.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Domon was one of the franchise's oldest protagonists, and was 20 years old in his first appearance.
  • Domon's Japanese voice actor, Tomokazu Seki, also voiced Tomáš Masaryk of Mobile Suit Victory Gundam and Yzak Joule of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
  • Domon is the only active member of the Shuffle Alliance to be of a different nationality than his predecessor.
  • Domon's original U.S. Dub Television Voice Actor, Mark Gatha, was also famous for voicing Mega Man X from the Mega Man franchise (specifically in Mega Man X8Mega Man X Command Mission and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X).
    • Coincidentally, in the Day of Sigma OVA included in Maverick Hunter X and in both of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection games, X performs an ability that is strikingly similar to Domon's Shining Finger. As another layer of coincidences, this Shining Finger analogue was done to Sigma, who also shares a voice actor with Master Asia, Dave Pettitt, who voiced Sigma in X8 only.
    • Mark Gatha retired from voice acting in 2006 to become an orthopedic surgeon. He was succeeded by Phil Fulton as Domon's voice actor, most prominently in the Dynasty Warriors Gundam titles.
  • A character who resembled Domon made an appearance in Gundam Build Fighters Try, who was Sekai Kamiki and Junya Inose's master.
  • Even though it is undisclosed, Domon's fighting style is seemingly a combination of Karate, Kendo, and Shorinji Kempo (the Japanese version of Shaolin Kung Fu). In some illustrations, Domon can be seen wearing a Gi (white uniform) and a black belt for either Karate or Kempo.
  • Domon appears in the Extreme Vs. series acting as the pilot for both the Shining Gundam and the God Gundam with the former being able to summon Master Asia's Kowloon Gundam and the latter summoning Rain's Rising Gundam for the Sekiha Love Love Tenkyouken as well as Fuunsaiki for support. Throughout his dialogue with other pilots, he will insist on calling his unit a mobile fighter, much to the bewilderment of characters in other timelines.
    • Due to its golden appearance, Domon will think that the Hyaku Shiki is already in its Super Mode. Due to him sharing the same voice actor as Yzak, characters from Gundam SEED and G Gundam will mistake them for one another.
    • Domon will be intrigued by the Sandrock Custom's Heat Shotels, and will think that the machine is also another mobile fighter. Quatre Raberba Winner will respond that while he did think about the melee aspect of the unit, he wouldn't really call it a "fighter". Domon will also wonder if the XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam is able to use Kenpo.
    • Domon is confused with the eccentric design of the PF-78-1 Perfect Gundam. Much to Domon's surprise, Shiro Kyoda refers to himself as a "world champion" in response to Domon's title as the "King of Hearts". His overaggressive manner of speaking and refusal to hold back against children also frightens Shiro.
  • To obtain the "Super Mode" variant of the Domon AI Pilot in Gundam Breaker Mobile, players must build it from event blueprints during a limited time when it is available as a build project. This is resource-intensive process, as each part requires a combination of twelve total Material which can only be obtained by rolling the current gacha capsules on specific weeks to get the number of necessary materials for the part. It would take at least twelve rolls over four weeks to craft the AI.
